Riley Track Day Car Set to Take on Grassroots Motorsports Magazine Hankook Ultimate Track Car Challenge at VIR

Mooresville, NC (21 July 2009)—Like people, some organizations simply have racing in their blood.

So it comes as little surprise that even though Riley Technologies latest offering, the hugely capable Track Day Car (TDC), wasn’t necessarily designed for competition, that it will get the chance to do exactly that as part of Grassroots Motorsports magazine Hankook Ultimate Track Car Challenge this weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

The TDC was created to meet the growing demand for high performance vehicles for use at private track facilities, delivering an unparalleled driving experience while keeping costs at reasonable levels.

Riley factory driver Marc Goossens will pilot the TDC, which was first officially unveiled to the public in April during the Rolex Sports Car Series event at VIR. The Hankook Ultimate Track Car Challenge follows the National Auto Sport Association’s Time Trial format, with the TDC slated to run in the top Shop Class. The objective is straightforward, as the fastest lap of the day will win the event.

“Even though we were very careful to make sure our TDC set new levels for safety and that it would be reasonable to operate and maintain, we also wanted to make sure that it was really fast,” said Riley Technologies VP Bill Riley. “So this is a great opportunity for us to show that we’ve been successful in doing that. It is great that Grassroots Motorsports and Hankook Tire are putting on this event, when we first heard about it last year we knew this was one event we had to make. Having it at VIR is also a perfect setting because the country club track environment is exactly what the TDC was designed for. The competition is going to be very tough, but we are looking forward to seeing how quickly we can go and hopefully we can come out on top.”

Goossens, a winner in Rolex Daytona Prototype competition, is a perfect pick for the driving duties, as he was not only involved with some of the early development testing on the TDC, but he is also part of the on-site support that Riley Technologies offers owners as they tap into his ability to help find the perfect set-up for each owner as part of the delivery experience for each TDC.

“After having some very good runs with the TDC in Florida, I am really looking forward to having the chance to run it at such a great drivers track like VIR,” said Goossens. “It was a blast to drive in Homestead back in May and I can not wait to get back in the driver’s seat and race against some of the top Track Day Cars in the world.”

Every Track Day Car comes with a wide range of options for each customer, based on their particular needs. All Track Day Cars are currently powered by a General Motors LS3 engine, available in two different power levels.

The Grassroots Motorsports Hankook Ultimate Track Car Challenge at VIR will take place this Friday, July 24, with results slated to be posted at: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com.

Riley Technologies has an extended legacy of success, developing competitive on-track products for the Rolex Sports Car Series, the American LeMans Series, the USAC Gold Crown Series, and the Japanese GT Championship Series.
