Also raceday in Laguna Seca isn’t trouble free
Also on raceday, the Jaguar still experienced some issues during the warm-up and also during the race.
In the morning during warm-up there were some gearbox problems on top of a dashboard failure. The dash froze on Friday evening whilst adding some alarm settings to it. No dashboard ment also no control over the gearbox problem whilst in pitlane. So after a couple of laps the team decided to start with the final pre race preparation, rather than creating more problems whilst driving more laps without being able to check the controls.
For the race itself the decision was made to let Marc start from the pitlane. He started the race and had a trouble free run until just before the midway point of the race. Then a bad vibration sort of immediately resulted in no more drive. ”We found that after two hours of pushing the car to it’s own limits we had a CV joint or bearing failure in the drive line.“, says Marc, “On top of that as the car slowed down without warning, the car behing me drove straight into the back of our Jaguar XKR GT2.” The body damage because of the crash was minimal, but unfortunately the team had to retire because of the drive train issue.
“I have to say that, although we suffered from multople small issues that stopped us from running much during the weekend, the team never gave up. All the guys stayed very motivated to get the car back on track as soon as they could. Congratulations and many thanks to everyone at RSR ! Especially after working very late hours and hardly no time for sleep.“, Marc adds, “The next step is to go testing with the Jaguar. Following all we learnded this weekend, I am confident that after the necessary miles in free testing, the car will show it’s real potential.“
Now Marc returns to Europe for the final BRL race in Assen in two weeks.
