Door met iBird aan de start van de 24 Uren van Le Mans te verschijnen, onderstreept ProSpeed Competition, voormalig kampioen in FIA GT2 en FIA GT3, het belang van creativiteit in topsport. iBird is meteen de vierde artistieke invulling van een autosportwedstrijd door ProSpeed Competition. iBird is een werk van Loïc Poncelet en laat zich omschrijven als een magistrale interpretatie van de verstandhouding tussen natuur en techologie, een samengaan dat onontbeerlijk is om in de autosport te slagen. iBird zal toevertrouwd worden aan een bijzonder homogeen trio, met name de Belg Marc Goossens, de officiële Porsche Motorsport-rijder Marco Holzer (Dui) en de snelle Nederlander Jaap van Lagen. iBird wordt onthuld op maandag 6 juni om 16u10 op de Place des Jacobins, tijdens de traditionele technische controle, alsmede via internet op www.iBird.info.

In Francorchamps stond voor ProSpeed Competition dit weekend de 1000 km van Spa-Francorchamps op het programma, de tweede wedstrijd van de “Le Mans Series”. Het Belgische team kende op donderdag en vrijdag een moeilijke aanloop, maar goede analyses van de problemen door de rijders en het team en sterke oplossingen maakten dat de Porsche 911 GT3 RSR op de racedag snel voor de dag kwam. Een race-incident na goed twee uur stopte de opmars even, maar uiteindelijk werden de CPL Trans-GrafiWrap rijders Marc Goossens en Marco Holzer na een remonte nog zesde en beste Porsche vertegenwoordiger.

This weekend ProSpeed Competition was competing at Spa-Francorchamps in the 1000 km of Spa-Francorchamps, the second round of the Le Mans Series. On Thursday and Friday the Belgian team experienced a difficult start, however following first class analysis of the various problems by both the drivers and the team a solution was found, allowing the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR to perform well on race day. Just some two hours into the race an incident temporarily slowed their progress, but after a perfect climb up through the field the CPL Trans-GrafiWrap drivers, Marc Goossens Marco Holzer, finished sixth and came out as best Porsche representative.

Marc Goossens and Marco Holzer finished the 1000 km of Spa, the 2nd race of the Le Mans Series 2011, as 6th in “LM GTE Pro” and as the best Porsche-representatives. The Belgian race of the Le Mans Series was held together with the 2nd round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at the legendary circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. By merging both championships, there were 55 cars when the race-weekend began and 53 who took the start of the race. De Belgische manche van de Le Mans Series werd samen met de 2de ronde van de Intercontinental Le Mans Cup op het legendarische circuit van Spa-Francorchamps verreden. In Spa ontvangt ProSpeed Competition dit weekend zijn tegenstanders van de Le Mans Series op eigen bodem. De opdracht van het duo Marc Goossens-Marco Holzer zal er echter niet makkelijker op worden. Het legendarische Belgische circuit is bijzonder veeleisend voor mens en machine. Bovendien krijgen de teams van de Le Mans Series het gezelschap van de Intercontinental Le Mans Cup en zo wordt de lat dus heel hoog gelegd. Wordt Spa voor de rijders van de CPL Trans-GrafiWrap Porsche 911 GT3 RSR de echte start van het seizoen?

This coming weekend at Spa ProSpeed Competition will be welcoming all the rivals of the Le Mans Series on home ground. The assignment for the Marc Goossens-Marco Holzer duo will not be an easy one. The legendary Belgian circuit is exceptionally demanding for both man and machine. In addition the Le Mans Series teams will be joined by the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and as such the bar is being set extremely high. Will Spa be the real start of the season for the CPL Trans-GrafiWrap Porsche 911 GT3 RSR?

The incidents which occurred during the start procedure of the 6H of Le Castellet and their consequences are still fresh in the minds of everyone. At the intermediate ranking in the championship, the German coupés have no result. Even the fastest Porsche 911 GT3 RSR since de beginning of the season, namely the model bearing start number #75 of Marc Goossens and Marco Holzer. The car is tuned next to the Penders Porsche Centre Liege, only 63 kilometres from the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

The sporting viewpoint: Rudi Penders (Team Manager) : “We have turned the page, notwithstanding the fact that today we still feel the impact of the incident both on a technical as also budgetary field. Just to give you an idea of the impact of the accident, we had to drop out of the test day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. On the other hand I’m satisfied with the fact that the organiser took his responsibilities and brought about a revised regulation for the LMS 2011 “GTE Pro” category, which implies that now only the best four results will be taken into consideration for final rankings. So let’s now all look to the future.”

The technical viewpoint: Marc Goossens (Driver) : “The arrival of the teams from the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup will not make the interpretation of the performances any easier. On top of that we will have an enormous starting field in Spa and therefore a free lap becomes an important factor to set up a good time during the free practice sessions. During the race we’ll see a stretched out sprint, between the “GTE Pro” teams, of which some are true works teams.”

The driver’s viewpoint: Marco Holzer (Driver) : “I love this race track. It’s very demanding and has wonderful, fast corners. You always have to reckon with extreme weather conditions in the Ardennes but it certainly brings more excitement to the game. For ProSpeed Competition this is a home race so it’ll be a very special weekend for us.”
